Camlan Garden Centre opened in the summer of 2016; and the Farm Shop opened in the summer of 2018!
Lisa and Ian Allsop grasped the opportunity to transform an unused plot of land just off the A470 in Dinas Mawddwy into a much-needed local garden centre. The garden centre shop is off-grid, using using solar panels to provide lighting and power, and harvesting rainwater for irrigation as a suitably green solution to their ‘utility’ needs. The shop and cafe are converted 40ft shipping containers, clad in larch to blend in with the surrounding landscape.
The new farm shop is run by Ian Allsop, who has retired from gardening to indulge his love of cheese! The shop is a 20ft shipping container converted in a similar way to the garden centre shop and cafe. It sells a wide choice of Welsh and British cheeses, fresh locally produced bread as well as lots of tasty Welsh produce from companies including Halen Mon, Pembrokeshire Beachfood Company, and Nomnom Chocolate. More recently the farm shop has been able to stock locally farmed pork from Neuadd Fach Baconry and Cig Oen Mawddwy lamb.
The garden centre, run by Lisa Allsop, stocks Welsh and British grown plants such as Welsh variety fruit trees and hardy shrubs, alpines and perennials, all well suited to the climate in this part of Wales; along with a selection of more traditional plants such as summer bedding plants.
There is a separately owned cafe own-site.
